World Superbike Won’t Make Up For Lost Points

World Superbike racing has scrapped its plans to make up for the points lost from the cancellation of the South African round.

Tom Sykes’ chances of defending his World Superbike Championship just got a lot better with the FIM and Dorna’s announcement that there won’t be an attempt to make up for the points missed from the cancellation of the South African round of the series.

According to the FIM, “the proposal made to the Manufacturers and Teams competing in the Championship to arrange an additional race for both WSBK and WSS classes during the Round of Qatar did not receive the required consensus.”

Thus Sykes holds a 44-point lead with three rounds (six races) remaining in the schedule. The World Superbike Championship returns from its summer break on September 7 in Jerez, Spain. From there the series goes to Magny Cours in France on October 5 before concluding in Qatar on November 2.
