Daytona 1969: Rayborn Wins!

Cal Rayborn won his second straight Daytona 200 in 1969, the Californian averaging 100.882 mph on his factory Harley-Davidson a week after the originally scheduled 200 was rained out. Rayborn beat Ron Grant by over a lap with Canadian Mike Duff finishing third. Mert Lawwill was fourth with Brit Rodney Gould fifth.
Rayborn earned $5500 for his win 43 years ago – 21 percent of what the average price of a home cost back then ($26,200). The winner of this year’s Daytona 200 will earn $20,000, or 8.3 percent of the average home of $242,300.
