2017 Millville 250 MX Results: After having mostly a pretty miserable summer, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy got together with his team, and his teammate Adam Cianciarulo, and spent the last two weeks testing. And it seems as if they found something that works for Savatgy much better than what he’s been running so far.
Savatgy got the holeshot in moto one at Millville, Minnesota’s Spring Creek Raceway over GEICO Honda’s RJ Hampshire and just took off with it, plain and simple. Points leader Zach Osborne had to come through the field, which is a situation he’s probably getting used to by now, and disaster struck with six minutes left on the clock (plus two laps) when it appeared he may have actually kicked the right-side radiator hose and caused all of the coolant in his Husqvarna to vacate the engine.

Smoke began pouring out immediately as he was pressuring Hampshire for fourth, and then two minutes after the smoke started, the smoke stopped, meaning his motorcycle had no coolant left, and there were still four minutes plus two laps left to run.
Somehow, he managed to nurse his motorcycle to the finish, and he ended up a miraculous eighth in the moto, with help from GEICO Honda’s Chase Sexton going down late in the moto, and then British visitor Steven Clarke going down just before the white flag.

At the finish, it was Savatgy over TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Alex Martin, Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger, GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin and Hampshire, then Savatgy’s teammate Cianciarulo, Plessinger’s teammate Dylan Ferrandis, Osborne, Ferrandis’s teammate Colt Nichols, and then Clarke with a fantastic ride for 10th despite the late fall.
Moto two started much the same, with Alex Martin’s teammate Shane McElrath taking the holeshot, but immediately giving way to Savatgy, who tried to run away with his second moto win in a row, but this time, Osborne’s bike kept its cool(ant) and he chased the leaders down and passed them with apparent ease late in the race to run away with the moto win by nearly 11 seconds despite not taking the lead from Savatgy until there were only five minutes left on the clock.

Savatgy hung on for second to take the overall win with a 1-2 score, and then came McElrath, Alex Martin, Jeremy Martin, Cianciarulo, Hampshire, Ferrandis, Cycle Trader/Rock River Yamaha’s Bradley Taft, and Trader’s Racing Yamaha’s Nick Gaines.
Osborne now carries a 43-point lead into Washougal next weekend despite what should’ve been a DNF in moto one (but wasn’t).
