In this week’s Throwback installment, we go back 16 years to the year 2000 and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Competition in the Chevy Trucks AMA Superbike was near an all-time peak with 15 factory or factory support bikes blasting off from the starting line in this July race. In this one it was Aaron Yates (No. 20) holding off Yoshimura Suzuki teammate and defending series champ Mat Mladin (No. 1) for the victory. Future World Champion Nicky Hayden (No. 69) finished third on the factory Honda. Eric Bostrom (No. 32 Kawasaki) and John Kocinski (No. 46 Vance & Hines Ducati) rounded out the top five. Mladin went on to edge Hayden for that year’s Superbike championship.
