Graham Jarvis Takes 2016 Erzberg Hare Scramble Win
Cycle News Staff | May 30, 2016
Graham Jarvis rode his Husqvarna to the win at the twenty second running of the Erzberg Hare Scramble in Austria. The British rider completed the course in just under two hours and twenty minutes, nearly 30 minutes ahead of American Cody Webb. Webb had a back and forth battle with Spain’s Alfredo Gomez, eventually finished third, just three minutes back.
Jarvis rode a conservative qualifying prologue to take the twenty sixth position, which led to an outside starting position and start outside the top ten. But he methodically worked his way through the field to take the lead about thirty minutes into the event and then slowly pulled away from the rest of the field.
Webb took over the lead early in the event but had difficulties and dropped back several positions. He then worked his way back to the front of the pack where he battled with Gomez. Second was secured on the last difficult climb as Gomez was forced to make a second attempt and Webb took the position.
Taddy Blazusiak, the five time winner of the Erzberg Hare Scramble took the early lead and battled among the top three early in the race until he had some difficulties and broke his brake lever, which held him back to an eighth place finish.
Spain’s Mario Roman took forth position, twenty two minutes back from Gomez. Eighteen year old Billy Bolt started from the second row among the 500 starters and worked through field to finish fifth.
