Kailub Russell returned to his winning ways in the Amsoil GNCC Series. Russell battled Ryan Sipes for much of the race before pulling away and taking the win at the Mountaineer Run GNCC in Masontown, West Virginia, May 24.

Russell, on the FMF KTM, took the early lead but later bobbled in a rock section of the course, allowing AirGroup/Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna’s Ryan Sipes to catch him. From there, the two traded places a number of times before Russell took control and rode away, crossing the finish line about a minute and a half ahead of Sipes.

“I was really happy to get the holeshot today,” said Russell. “I thought I could pull away early on but Sipes kept on me for a while. It was hard with both of us not really knowing the course those first few laps. Once I finally got it down, I was able to pass, pull a gap and take the win.”

Husqvarna rider Nick Davis was the top XC2 riding, finishing sixth overall. Ricky Russell (Yamaha) was second in class, eighth overall.

FMF/KTM’s Kacy Martinez won the Women’s Pro class.
