Practice at Detroit

Detroit, Michigan (March 15, 2014) – Practice is underway in Detroit for round 11 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, and it seems to be business as usual, as all the major players are present and accounted for.

The weather has been the main topic in the pits, as a heavy snow storm blew through the area two days before, but as of this morning, most of the snow was gone, leaving only bitterly cold temperatures and a biting wind.

As far as the racing is concerned, it will be interesting to see if Ryan Villopoto can pick up where he left off after dominating last week’s race in Daytona, The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider comes into tonight’s race with a 28 point lead in the series standings over Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey.

And then there’s Dean Wilson (pictured), who is filling in for the injured Chad Reed on the Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports Kawasaki. Wilson was extremely fast last week, as well, but ran out of steam at the 15-lap mark. Will he go this distance this week? We’ll find out tonight.

The racetrack in Detroit has a couple of different obstacles that should make things interesting. First off, there is about an 8-inch drop off about 15 feet in front of the gate that riders will have to negotiate right off the start. And then at one end of the stadium the course makes a loop up into the stands for about 90 feet, turns, and then shoots right back down and into a rhythm section, which should be sketchy.

In the East Regional 250 SX class, Adam Cianciarulo comes into the race holding a seven-point lead over his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate Martin Davalos.

Racing gets underway at 7:00 Eastern time with opening ceremonies, followed by the heat races, semis and main events.
