Supercross: Dean Wilson Ready For Indy

Dean Wilson will make his debut ride for Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports Team this coming weekend in Indianapolis for round nine of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series, filling in for an injured Chad Reed, who will miss the remainder of the season due to injuries suffered in a last-lap crash in San Diego three weeks ago.

Wilson agreed to the deal before last week’s round in Atlanta, but elected to spend a couple of weeks on the bike before joining the series. According to Wilson, the past week of practice was a good one.

“I got to Florida on Sunday and rode Monday and Tuesday and had a pretty good week,” said Wilson. “That’s all I got to ride because the Florida weather is unpredictable and it poured on us last night so we couldn’t ride today. I feel good on the bike and I’m comfortable and I gel with everyone on the team so I think it will be a good weekend. I’m just going to have some fun and do my best and hopefully put Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports on the box.”

Although Wilson has experience on a 450, this will be his first ride on a big bike in the Supercross series.

In the meantime, Reed plans on attending most of the remaining Supercross races as team owner and as rider coach as Dean transfers his efforts from the 250 to the 450.

“I’ve wanted to do the 450 rounds on the East coast just to keep racing because I feel like I’m riding pretty well at the moment,” said Wilson. “Mitch Payton and Reid Nordin (Kawasaki race team manager) were really supportive of this move, as well as the other team sponsors. I just want to mix it up with the boys and have fun. There is no pressure so it should just be some good racing and some good experience for me.”

Wilson is expected to return to the 250 class when the West 250 SX Regional series resumes in Houston, Texas on April 5th.
