Sylvain Guintoli’s attempt to try and win the 2013 World Superbike Championship was hard enough given the recent surge by Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes, but now it’s really going to get difficult with the Aprilia factory rider heading to this weekend’s round in Russia with a dislocated shoulder.

Guintoli, who is currently trails Sykes in the championship chase by six points, crashed his bicycle while on a training ride and suffered a dislocated right shoulder. The Frenchman heads to Moscow where he will be assessed by the Mobile Clinica doctors who will decide if he is fit to race.

“Last Sunday I had a bicycle accident and dislocated my collarbone,” Guintoli said in a team release. “After many thoughts, I took the decision to ride in Moscow. It is going to be a very hard challenge and a very painful weekend, but my aim is to fight for the championship.”
