Highly touted motocross rookie Adam Cianciarulo will miss the opening round of the Luca Oils AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Hangtown due to illness.

According to Mitch Payton, team owner of Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, Cianciarulo has been sick (with a flu or virus) all week. He rode press day then went to the hospital. As of last night, doctors would not give him the okay to race, so he will miss today’s race.

Even without Cianciarulo the team should be well represented with 250 riders Blake Baggett, Justin Hill, Martin Davalos and Darryn Durham along with Dean Wilson and Tyla Rattra in the 450 class.

Cianciarulo was the most decorated minicycle motocross rider ever. The 16-year-old was slated to ride the number-292 KX250F as a member of the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team. Cianciarulo’s first race on the big bike (250F) was at the Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas in October, where he went 5-1 in the Amateur All-Stars race. An injury had kept away from races since February.
