Tomas Puerta was holding an extra card in his pocket. On the last lap the Colombian pulled out his ace card, a blazing lap (a second faster than everyone else) on his Roadrace Factory Yamaha R6 to put a gap on the rest of the field to win a thrilling Motorcycle Superstore Supersport final.

The margin of victory was 1.030 seconds. That was by far the biggest gap of the race, which saw as many as 12 riders slugging it out in the lead pack with the lead changing multiple times each lap,

Second place was surprising Charles Weaver, who overcame a 13th-place grid position on his NAPA Auto Yamaha to work his way up to the lead pack and win a drafting war over the rest of the pack. Corey Alexander took third on the National Guard Suzuki. Jeffrey Tiger and Travis Wyman rounded out the top five.

“My crew has been working so hard in the off season,” Puerta said. “The bike worked great and allowed me to get away on the last lap.”

Friday’s Supersport winner Stefano Mesa finished 12th and leads the series after the first two rounds over Hayden Gillim and Alexander.
