James “Al” Holley, 1938-2013

Former professional dirt tracker and factory motocross mechanic James “Al” Holley passed away on Sunday, March 24. He was 74.

Holley raced dirt track professionally in the 1960s at places like Ascot Park in Gardena, California. After retiring from racing, Holley worked as a mechanic for his son, former factory Yamaha motocrosser/supercrosser Jim Holley, in the 1980s as well as working for Yamaha Japan for motocrossers Takeshi Koikeda and Koji Ohkawara.

Holley is survived by his wife, Diane, son, Jim, daughters, Cindy, Cathy and Chris, and grandchildren, James, Jared, Cory and Tony.

Holley’s funeral will be held on Saturday, March 30 at 12:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Memorial Park, 22601 Lassen St., Chatsworth, CA 91311.
