UPDATED: Casey Stoner Set For Car Racing Debut; Not So Fast

The Melbourne Herald Sun in Australia is reporting that Casey Stoner will almost certainly make the move to four wheels on March 3 when he races in the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide, but Stoner himself is denying it. On his Twitter feed, Stoner wrote, “Don’t believe everything you read! Haven’t decided what I’m doing yet, of corse (sic) @v8supercars is on the cards. Will let you know when I do!”
There is a recent precedent for the discrepancy. Stoner denied rumors he was retiring from MotoGP at the Portuguese round of the MotoGP World Championship last year, but at the very next race in Le Mans, France, Stoner changed his story and confirmed his retirement. Likely it’s only a matter of time before he confirms his entry in the V8 Supercars championship.
According to the Herald Sun, Stoner will start his four-wheel career in a developmental V-8 Supercars series. The two-time MotoGP World Champion announced his retirement from motorcycle racing in May of 2012.
The newspaper is also reporting that Stoner will drive in the entire series with sponsorship by Triple Eight Racing in Red Bull livery.
“Since I was 12, I’ve always been interested in it,” Stoner told the newspaper. “It was always my plan during my whole career to drive a V8. It’s now the new chapter in my career, but I have the be realistic and see if we’re capable of doing anything.”
Stoner is scheduled to test the car at Sydney Motorsport Park on February 16.
