AMA Superbike Series To Austin?

Henny Ray Abrams | December 19, 2012

The AMA Pro Superbike Series will likely be at least nine rounds with the news that the Circuit of the Americas (CoTA) is in negotiation to hold a stand-alone round of the championship on Labor Day weekend.

The 2012 championship featured 11 rounds, but four likely won’t be returning. The three races promoted by M1 Entertainment – Road Atlanta, Homestead-Miami Raceway, and NOLA Motorsports Park – aren’t on the provisional calendar, nor is Sonoma Raceway, which announced their departure from the championship earlier this year. A second round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was added for the fall on the undercard of the World Superbike Championship. And now comes word that CoTA may be on the calendar.

A spokesperson for CoTA said the track was in negotiation with the AMA to host a round of the series, though he added that nothing had been signed. If added, the round would be held on the Labor Day weekend, September 6-8, the week prior to the race at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
