Beaubier Flies to Homestead Victory

HOMESTEAD, FL, SEPT 22 – Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier won for the fifth time in the past seven races with a dominant performance in the Daytona Sportbike main at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Beaubier took the lead on the third of 23 laps and grew his lead to nearly four seconds. The gap came down in the final few laps, but he still won comfortably by 1.633 secs.

Geico Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas moved closer to clinching his second Daytona Sportbike title by finishing second, 1.043 sec. in front of Meen Motorsports Racing’s Bobby Fong (Yamaha). Cardenas has an 83 point lead, 397 to 314, over M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby, today’s distant fourth place finisher. To add the 2012 crown to the one he won in 2010, Cardenas has to finish Sunday’s race with at least a 63 point lead on Westby. Westby had been part of the trio battling for second until dropping back to a lone fourth. Beaubier, who missed three races early in the season, is third with 295 points.

Road Race Factory/Red Bull Yamaha’s Jake Gagne recovered from an early problem that dropped him from third on the first lap to 14th at the end of lap two. He got as high as fifth, but couldn’t make any further inroads.

Ducshop Racing’s Jake Zemke (Ducati) held off Kneedraggers.com/Triple Crown Industries Tommy Aquino (Yamaha) for sixth, with Jason DiSalvo (Team Latus Motors Racing Triumph) a close eighth.
