Beaubier Doubles at Barber

LEEDS, AL, JUNE 24 – Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier completed a perfect weekend by sweeping both Daytona Sportbike races from pole on a cloudy bright and hot day at Barber Motorsports Park.

Today’s race was waged among six riders, then five, four, three, and finally two. And for the final few laps Beaubier put it out of reach.

Until then it was competitive with Beaubier mostly leading, but sometimes ceding the point to M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby. Westby emerged the best of the bunch on the 14th of 21 laps when he took second from Bobby Fong (Meen Motorsports Racing Yamaha).

Westby took the lead on the 15th lap with Beaubier taking it back a lap later. Then he started to stretch the gap, taking it over a second on the 19th lap.

The margin of victory was 2.163 secs.

Westby was alone in second with Geico Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas holding off Tommy Hayden (Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha) for third.

Fong dropped to fifth in front of early leader Jason DiSalvo, the Latus Motors Racing Castrol Triumph rider who had tire issues for the second day in a row.

By finishing in front of DiSalvo, Cardenas padded his championship lead to 51 points. He has 243 points to 192 for DiSalvo and Westby. Hayden is fourth with 179.
