Barcia Breaks Record

ST. LOUIS — GEICO Honda’s Justin Barcia won his third consecutive Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class Main Event and extended his points lead to 18 points. In doing so Barcia became the first rider in history to win three straight years in St. Louis.

“I was hoping to be the first to win three straight,” Barcia said. “There wasn’t that much pressure on me, but I was thinking about it there on the last lap.”

Barcia blasted off the gate to capture his second consecutive Nuclear Cowboyz Holeshot Award. Behind him, came German ace Ken Roczen on his Red Bull KTM and GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle, the rookie campaigner who was the fastest rider in timed qualifying earlier in the day.

While Barcia extended his lead, Bogle stalked Roczen for several laps, and on the last lap while setting up his move, he suffered a crash, smashing his knee into his chest and tweaking his bike. As a result, he lost third place to Rockstar Energy Racing Suzuki’s Blake Wharton and fourth to Darryn Durham on the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki. That’s how they ultimately finished. Bogle remounted his bent machine and was forced to settle for fifth.

Roczen’s second place was the best this season..

“It was great to get the holeshot and check out tonight,” Barcia continued. “The dirt here in St. Louis is amazing. I am not changing anything as we head to the next race; if I keep doing this, I should win the championship.”
