Repsol Honda’s reigning and two-time MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner has a new title – proud father. Stoner and wife Adriana welcomed their first child, Alessandra Maria Stoner, on Thursday night at a hospital near his European home in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The birth was announced on the Repsol Honda Twitter feed.

“We are very happy to announce Alessandra Stoner was born on the 16/02/2012 at 21:55 weighing 2.8kg. Mum & baby are both doing well!”

Ironically, the Stoners’ daughter shares a birthday with Ducati Marlboro’s Valentino Rossi, Stoner’s former rival. Rossi turned 33 on February 17. Stoner finished the five-year 800cc era with 33 wins, including 10 this year, while Rossi, who hasn’t won in 16 months, finished with 21. Both won two World Championships, Rossi in 2008 and 2009, Stoner in 2007 and 2011.

Rossi thanked his 585,000 Twitter followers for their birthday greetings

“Thanks for all the greetings guys, arriving from all the world! Italy, England, France, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, U.S., Australia! Fantastic!”

In his next tweet, Rossi took note of the birth of the Stoners’ child.

“Yesterday was born the daughter of Stoner. Seeing the close relationship of mutual respect that binds us, I expected that the name was Valentina.”

Other famous names born on February 16 include John McEnroe, Ice-T, Elizabeth Olsen, and the late Kim Jong-Il.
