Team Honda Muscle Milk rider Trey Canard underwent surgery on Tuesday night to repair the back injuries he suffered in his first-lap crash with Ryan Morais at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night.
According to American Honda, the surgery was to stabilize the injured area. Although details remain basically non-existent, the injury is believed to be to Canard’s lower back and rods were fitted to stabilize the breaks.
“The surgery went exactly as planned,” said Trey’s brother Aaron in the Honda team release issued tonight. “He is still in some pain and discomfort, but is able to deal with it better and better. He is staying positive and his spirits are up, which is great to see. Depending on how the next few days go, the doctors are hoping he can be released to go home by the end of the weekend.”
American Honda will release additional news on Canard’s condition at the family request, the release stated.
Canard was injured on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium when he rolled the triple jump on the first lap with one of the covers from a Tuff Block stuck in his rear wheel. Morais, meanwhile, was doing the triple jump and landed directly on top of Canard. Morais suffered a broken jaw, fractured vertebra and broken ribs.
