Red Bull KTM’s Max Nagl will soon require a second back surgery after complications from the first surgery, which was completed at the end of the World Motocross Championship season.
The German motocrosser delayed the original surgery until the end of the season, riding through the pain to finish the second half of the 2011 MX1 World Championship fifth in the championship.
Despite quite a lot of physical discomfort, Nagl remains firmly optimistic about a successful outcome and is looking forward to returning to training and the factory team.
Following the second operation there’s a week of bed rest followed by a month of inactivity before Nagl will be allowed to return to full-on training. At that point he will stay at Red Bull’s high-tech training center in Austria where he will work under the guidance of medical and physical therapists. If all goes according to plan, Nagl will then be able to resume riding his KTM.
“I hope to have Max with us as soon as possible and to see him ride the new bike,” said Red Bull Teka KTM team manager Claudio de Carli. “He is an elite athlete so he is very strong mentally and in good physical condition. We are confident that his recovery will be quick and completely successful. I am very much looking forward to seeing him ride the new KTM 450!”
Nagl is slated to compete in the 2012 MX1 World Championship alongside teammate and reigning World Champion Tony Cairoli.
