Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes won his second AMA Pro Road Racing Superbike Championship by taking advantage of the points system and taking advantage of a game-changing mistake by Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Blake Young (see sidebar).Hayes didn’t even win half as many races as Young – he had three to Young’s seven – but he excelled at collecting points. Hayes was on the pole in seven of eight rounds and earned seven laps led points. Those 14 points were more than enough to put him over the top. The final points tally was Hayes 363, Young 358.
