Three years ago Bobby Garrison was a contender for the WORCS Championship, but injuries stalled his career, and he had to race hurt in 2009-2010. But this weekend, Bobby G announced he is back in a big way with 1-1 race wins to take the overall victory at WORCS round two in Primm, Nevada, February 26-27, 2011.
“It’s great to be on top of the box again,” said Garrison. “It’s been a long time and I’m really grateful to everyone who has stuck with me through all this. It’s no secret that I like to race in the sand, so I’ve always enjoyed the Primm WORCS race.”
Garrison’s victory is all the more remarkable because he is a true privateer this season riding a Kawasaki he purchased himself (“because Kawi has the best off road contingency program,” he says) and racing for prize money. “WORCS has ‘Top Privateer’ bonus,” said Garrison. “So this has been a pretty good weekend for me.”
Remarkably, the podium was exactly the same for race one on Saturday and race two on Sunday with Garrison taking the win ahead of Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert and KTM’s Kurt Caselli. Robert was the only rider to really challenge Garrison in either race, but small mistakes cost him a chance for the win.
“I had a couple of falls, dropped it once on the pavement coming into the pits and fell over in the scoring chute,” said Robert. “Still going 2-2 for second overall is pretty good and I’m happy with it for now. I’m going to go after Bobby harder in Havesu.”
Caselli was philosophical about his 3-3 performance. “I had a little trouble with the dead-engine start and by the time I got through traffic both Garrison and Robert were gone,” he said. “I’ve got to hand it to Bobby G this round, he was amazing and I’m happy to see him back up here on the podium.”
Fourth place fell to fan-favorite Justin Soule with Kyle Summers in fifth, Gary Sutherlin in sixth, Brenden Ritzman in seventh, Robby Bell in eighth, Colton Udall ninth and Destry Abbott 10th.
