Wilairot Injured In Streetbike Crash

Moto2 World Championship racer Ratthapark Wilairot, the only Thai racer in the series, is in the intensive care unit of Bangkok’s Bamrungrad Hospital after suffering head injuries in a streetbike crash near his home in Chon Buri, Thailand, on Monday.Wilairot was reportedly a passenger on a motorcycle ridden by his friend, who died at the scene, at the time of the accident. According to the Bangkok Post, the racer is out of danger but is still unconsious.The accident follows an already tragic week for the Wilairot family as his father, Christmas, died of liver cancer last week, according to the Post. The Spain-based rider was in Thailand to attend his father’s funeral.Wilairot scored 30 points en route to finishing 22nd in this year’s Moto2 World Championship. The highlight to his season came at Assen, the site of the Dutch Grand Prix, where he finished fourth in the Moto2 GP after qualifying second.
