The following release is from AMA Pro Racing…DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (October 5, 2010) – This year, AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes realized a long time ambition to win the coveted AMA Number One Plate and the championship but he also took the $10,000 MotoConnect.net Pole Award for his series high three pole positions achieved at Infineon Raceway, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Road America.
Josh received a check for $10,000 from MotoConnect.net’s Mike Mixon at the season ending banquet at Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum on the Monday night after the final race.
Hayes, on his Team Graves Yamaha bested a group of five different riders who all took pole positions in 2010.

Aaron Yates was the early MotoConnect.net Pole Award leader when he took pole position for the first two events of the 2010 season. Aaron led the field at the season opener at Daytona International Speedway and then took the pole for the next event at Auto Club Speedway in California before his year was abbreviated by an accident during the weekend that effectively ended his season. Aaron did make a comeback at the Virginia International Raceway race in August but he elected not to compete. With the absence of Yates, the MotoConnect.net Pole Award was again up for grabs.
The next rider to claim his stake on the $10,000 Award was Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider Blake Young. He took the pole position for the Road Atlanta event and followed it up with a double win weekend at the storied Georgia track.
For the next race, it was now Josh Hayes’ turn to put his name into the mix for the MotoConnect.net prize. Josh took the pole position for the Infineon Raceway double header and like Blake, Josh went on to win both weekend races. Josh then captured his second pole position of the season at the next race on the 2010 schedule, the daunting Road America race course. Josh was now tied with Aaron Yates for the lead in the MotoConnect.net Pole Award standings.
The next event was at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in July and Hayes took his third pole position in a row and few could have known that this would be the pivotal race in the chase for the MotoConnect.net Pole Award.
A new rider put himself for the running for the Pole Award when the AMA Pro Road Racing riders assembled at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the big MotoGP weekend. Ben Bostrom put his Pat Clark Motorsports Yamaha on the point and he duly went on to win again at his favorite track. Just like that, Ben came back at the next race at VIR and took the pole again to put himself into contention for the MotoConnect.net Award as well.
A new name appeared in the list of riders achieving a pole position in 2010. Tommy Hayden took his career first AMA Pro SuperBike pole position on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki at the New Jersey Motorsports Park track and it looked like the battle for the Pole Award would come down to the last race of the season.
Heading into Barber Motorsports Park, the situation was settled before the motorcycles even took to the track. Due to an injury suffered at New Jersey, Ben Bostrom wasn’t able to compete at Barber and with Blake Young securing his second pole position for the season finale, Josh Hayes locked up the coveted MotoConnect.net Pole Award.
Josh Hayes won a number of awards and cash prizes at the AMA Pro Road Racing Banquet but it was the MotoConnect.net Pole Award that headed the list for the biggest single payout. Josh was delighted with the award and thanked Mike Mixon on stage for the generous award and for the support of AMA Pro Racing.
