Surgery For Elias

Team Gresini’s star Moto2 rider Toni Elias underwent surgery yesterday to repair injuries sustained in a testing crash at Jerez in Spain on Monday, March 29. Gresini suffered a broken left ankle and damage to the pinkie finger of his left hand in the accident.Elias underwent the surgery at the Teknon Medical Center in Barcelona, Spain with Dr. Joaquim Casanas, the hospital’s traumatology and hand specialist, who inserted a  screw and plate into his ankle and five small screws into his pinkie finger.  Elias started rehab soon after the surgery under the care of Ricard HuĂ©lam, Director of Sports Physiotherapy at the hospital, and the Spaniard is hoping to be fit in time for the season-opening Grand Prix in Qatar on April 11.The 27-year-old former MotoGP winner was second fastest behind Forward Racing rookie Claudio Corti prior to his crash, which occurred when he was trying to pass a slower rider.
