Amateur Open of MX Produces Many Winners

The sixth annual Amateur Open of Motocross went off without a hitch at its home track near Phoenix, Arizona, last weekend. Riders filled up the Arizona Cycle Park, and they were treated with cool mornings, warm days, no rain, and a well-prepared safe track.The classes were stacked in both Novice and Intermediate divisions, with Austin Burns chalking up four championships out of the five classes entered. Mini classes were loaded with the top guns like Stilez Robertson, Luke Purther, and Arizona’s own Jon Ames.When it came to Sunday’s Pro day, Jason Anderson made his first appearance on his new Kawasaki ride, and cruised to several moto wins. WORCS racer Taylor Robert decided to show his motocross skills and earned 1-1 finishes in the 450 Pro class. Missouri’s Supercross twins, Adam and Aaron Gulley not only claimed mostly top five finishes in all Pro classes, but also collected double pay checks, by working the staging area throughout the week.The Amateur Open returned this year to its original December time slot, and will be scheduled for December 1-5 in 2010. Zegin Braun, Braun Entertainment’s director of operations said, “December is a perfect time, especially for the northern riders to come to Phoenix. With tracks shutting down for the winter months, we’re the last big event of the year, and riders like the opportunity to show their skills one final time, before the new year starts it all over again. We would like to thank MMI, PPG, the companies, the sponsors, and all the families for once again making The Amateur Open of Motocross a huge success.”
