The 2010 AMA Pro Superbike Championship will feature nine races, with a possible tenth, according to the schedule that was released today by AMA Pro Racing.The 2010 schedule looks similar to the 2009 schedule with two notable exceptions; no AMA races at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix and no second year for the sparsely attended return to Heartland Park Topeka. The lack of AMA races on the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix weekend leaves only the MotoGP races on the schedule. That will certainly change. As for expanding the schedule, the release said negotiations were ongoing for a tenth round.For the second year in a row, the season will start under the lights with the 69th running of the Daytona 200 on March 5. The race will air live on SPEED.The Daytona weekend will be the lone single race of the year. The rest of the race meetings will be doubleheaders with two 50-mile races for each of the two premier classes, presumably American Superbike and Daytona SportBike. The release didn’t say what the support classes would be, but suggested Moto-GT was no longer on the program by saying, “The Daytona 200 will be the only endurance race on the 2010 schedule.”After Daytona, the series moves to the traditional date at Auto Club Speedway (March 26 – 28) in Fontana, Calif., Road Atlanta (April 16 – 18). Round four is at Infineon Raceway (May 14 – 16) in Sonoma, Calif. Road America hosts round five on their traditional first weekend in June date (June 4 – 6).Mid-Ohio is next on July 16-18 Virginia International Raceway a month later on August 13 – 15. Then a break until the second running at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Labor Day weekend (September 3 – 5), then the season finale at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham (September 24 – 26). The season-ending banquet will likely be at the world class Barber Motorsports Museum.SPEED will air flag-to-flag same weekend coverage of the two premier classes, with highlights of the other classes, as yet unnamed, to be shown during the broadcasts.
