Springfield Short Track Postponed to Monday

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Sept. 6, 2009) – The Springfield Short Track, the final round of the AMA Grand National Singles Championship, has been postponed to Monday after rain put an end to Saturday night’s program at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Arena.

Riders and fans now turn their attention to the legendary Springfield Mile on Sunday.

Rain hit the area in the middle of timed qualifying. Illinois Motorcycle Dealer Association (IMDA) and AMA Pro Racing officials worked tirelessly late into the night to make the wet track race worthy. After hours of work racing was resumed and the program was shortened (eliminating Semi races), but the work proved to be in vain. During the Grand National heat races rains came again postponing the event until Monday.

Officials now likely have a another big chore to get the Mile ready to race on Sunday after Saturday night, running into Sunday morning, rains. In the event that Sunday’s program is rained out officials will attempt to run both the Mile and the Short Track programs back to back on Monday.
