Brown Takes AMA/WORCS Week Championship

The first annual WORCS Week wrapped up last weekend where former AMA Motocross Champion Mike Brown captured the number-one plate aboard his Muscle Milk/Shock Doctor Factory KTM. Brown rode consistent all week to capture the overall victory. Brown will be recognized as the first Pro to collect this annual Championship.

The first annual AMA/WORCS Week took place at Straddleline ORV Park in the state of Washington, just 40 miles outside Olympia. This event incorporated four disciplines of racing: hare scramble (WHS), MXGP, WORCS Xcross, and WORCS. Each Amateur “A” class participated in the series, where 15 classes were entered and all the winners will receive AMA number-one plates.

On Sunday, August 3, Brown rode to a well-earned fifth place in Sunday’s Pro WORCS/Western Hare Scrambles event. Brown came from a midpack start and managed to grab his first points of the week…

On Wednesday, August 6, Brown rode flawlessly in the GP MX event, where he 1-2 in the moto format, taking the overall event and adding 30 more collected points towards his Championship Week…

On Friday, August 8,  Brown came out swinging in WORCS Xcross, where he finished third and extended his points lead…

On Sunday, August 10, Brown came into round eight of the WORCS series with a commanding lead, as his goal was to finish top five to secure the first annual championship for the AMA number-one plate. Just that he did, Brown came into the final turn sitting in third and crossed the Rockwell Timing Chute, collecting his number-one plate.

“This event went off very well,” said Sean Reddish of WORCS. “I was pleased with the turnout and the overall feedback from this event. I would like to thank ‘Homer’ Roger Hamel for brainstorming this. He had an awesome, unique idea, and I think it will be back for sure. I would also like to thank Chuck Weir with the AMA for supporting us with this event and recognizing it as its own AMA Championship. The riders enjoyed the experience and are already looking ahead for next year.”
