Windham Set For Unadilla and Budds Creek

It looks like we will be seeing Kevin Windham back on the track before the 2009 season is over after all. Windham’s primary focus this year was the AMA Supercross Series, but when that was over, the GEICO Powersports Honda rider said that he would be interested in riding the outdoor Nationals if he could secure a deal to run the 250 class. Then that plan fell through and he chose to stay home – keeping his options open for showing up for a race or two. Many thought that Windham would return this past weekend at Washougal, where he has had much success in the past. When that didn’t happen, it left most figuring that Windham was going to sit out the entire season.Wrong.

Windham just announced that he has inked a new sponsor, Muscle Milk, and will get back to competing as soon as this week. Windham will compete in the Step Up competition ( tomorrow) and will races at least two of the remaining four National MX rounds in the 450 class on his GEICO Powersports Honda. He also suggests that he’ll be again competing in the Supercross series in 2010.

“I had been wanting to get back out there,” Windham said in a press release. “We’ve been working on it a long time, and we were able to get a deal through X Games with Muscle Milk, and all my other sponsors are remaining on board for X Games and then some of the remaining Nationals. It came together finally, and hopefully we can build a relationship with Muscle Milk and carry it on into the next season. I’ve been using Muscle Milk forever so it seemed like a good fit. Everything else came together with the help of the GEICO Powersports Honda team, and I’m looking forward to getting back out there on the track and having a good testing season as we get ready for Supercross.”

GEICO Powersports Honda co-owner Jeff Majkrzak says he is happy to have Windham back. “Kevin is the kind of guy you always want on the track if he wants to be on the track,” Majkrzak said. “It’s good that Kevin will be back out there starting this week, and we hope he can mix it up at the front of the pack in the remaining nationals as well. If anyone can come off the couch and compete for wins, it’s Kevin Windham.”

Muscle Milk Marketing Manager Shane McCassy is looking forward to seeing Kevin back on the track.

“We’re excited to have Kevin on the program,” McCassy said. “He’s always used our products so it’s awesome to be able to build upon that. We can’t wait to see Kevin mix it up on the podium!”

So which Nationals will Windham ride? He says for sure Unadilla and Budds Creek, which means will see Windham compete at the next race after the two-week break in the schedule. He says he still might ride the final rounds at Southwick and Delmont.

“I’m definitely doing Budds Creek and I’m definitely doing Unadilla, and past that, I’m really up in the air as to whether I’m going to do Southwick or I’m going to do Steel City,” Windham said. “I think my favorite track of the two would be Steel City, because it’s one of my favorite tracks overall, but it’s kind of a testament to how much fun I’ve been having. It’s the end of summer and my kids are going back to school, and I’m having fun. As much as I hate sand, I may actually do Southwick.”
