Mladin Not Riding In Kansas

Paul Carruthers | July 31, 2009

Mat Mladin has drawn a line in the sand when it comes to his personal safety and he refuses to cross it. The result: The Yoshimura Suzuki rider packed up and left Heartland Park Topeka yesterday after taking a few laps of the Kansas facility, opting not to participate in any of the road racing activities planned for track this weekend. When contacted by phone yesterday morning, Mladin would only say that the track was “terrible” and that he would be issuing a press release that afternoon. We have yet to receive that press release. The first Superbike practice session was just completed and it appears so far that Mladin is the only rider opting to sit out the event. Twenty three riders took to the track this morning with Larry Pegram the fastest of them at 1:36.022.Mladin holds a 126-point lead over his Yoshimura Suzuki teammate Tommy Hayden with six races left in the series.
