Lafferty Fires Back In Montana

| June 29, 2009

KTM’s Mike Lafferty claimed his third victory of the season at round seven of the AMA/Rekluse National Enduro series, the Rock Pile National, in Cascade, Montana, on June 28. Finishing second was California rider Jordan Brandt on a KTM 300XC, and third went to series leader Russell Bobbitt.

Fresh of his win at the previous round in Wyoming, Bobbitt suffered a few problems early on which cost him a shot at the overall.

Fourth place went to Husaberg-mounted Nick Fahringer, while Texan Cole Kirkpatrick rode his KTM to a fifth-place finish. Kirkpatrick finished one second behind Fahringer and led Bobbitt for most of the day, until final test.

“I liked this race,” Lafferty said. “I’m back on the 400 now and we had it set up good. It’s nice when you win one.”

Bobbitt crashed early in the race and it took him some time to get going. He played catch up most of the day.

“I lost the bike in a corner and ended upside down under the bike,” Bobbitt said. “It took me little bit to get going; then it seemed I was behind all day.”

Brandt said, “I was on a two-stroke for the first time in a few years, and the 300 was awesome. I love the rocks, and the terrain here was great.”
