Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix Schedule Firms Up

Cycle News Staff | May 26, 2009

The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix has a different look than the traditional double-header weekend, with American Superbike class having less track time, no safety car, and no Superpole as a support race for the fan-friendly race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.A preliminary schedule shows a leisurely Friday morning with no on-track activity until a 30-minute Supersport practice at 12:30. That’s followed by the first MotoGP free practice, Daytona SportBike and a 50-minute American Superbike practice, though no mention is made of the safety car. Traditional American Superbike Fridays begin with a 50-minute session with the safety car followed by 40 minutes of qualifying, then SuperPole.American Superbike has a 30-minute Saturday morning practice before a traditional 30-minute qualifying session, rather than SuperPole, at 1:30 p.m. On double-header weekends, American Superbike has a 30-minute qualifying session followed by a 50-mile race.On Sunday, American Superbike begins with a 20-minute warm-up-down from 30-at 10:40 a.m. The 23-lap, 50-mile race that follows at 4:15 p.m. is the final event of a race weekend with plenty of fan activity.Race fans will get a chance to look at the machines up close during Friday’s Pit Walk and later can attend the MotoGP Fan Party presented by LeoVince Exhaust.Saturday features a Fan Parade Lap and a free concert at the Yamaha Marketplace.Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix Friday, July 38:30am 10:30am Manufacturer parade laps
