Solis Takes Red Bull Title

MONTEREY, CA, SEPT. 28 – Benny Solis didn’t win the final race of the season in the inaugural Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, but he did enough to earn the title by finishing fifth.

Solis, who won four races during the season, won the title but the race win today went to Leandro Mercado, the youngster out front in both parts of the red-flag interrupted race.

Second place went to Indy winner Jake Gagne with Hayden Gillim passing both Austin Dehaven and Solis in the final corner to take the last spot on the podium. The move also allowed Gillim to finish second in the final series point standings.
