Team Green Kawasaki rider Josh Morros was critically injured in a high-speed get-off at the Wendover, Utah, round of the AMA/FMF Hare & Hound Championship, August 16. The rookie sensation, who was slated to star on the U.S. Junior Trophy Team at the upcoming ISDE, crashed on a fireroad during the second loop of the race. Fellow riders say that Morros had been pushing the edge all day before the crash, in which he reportedly hit a G-out at top speed.
Third-place rider David Kamo came across Morros and rode for help, while fellow Kawasaki rider Destry Abbott stopped and stayed with Morros until an ambulance arrived.
“It is sad to see that happen to Josh,” Kamo said. “I was thinking about him the entire second loop. I felt that he was going to be the backbone of our ISDE Junior team, and I know that he has been more excited about this than any of us. My family and I will definitely have him in our thoughts for the next couple weeks, and hopefully he will come out of this without any serious injury.”
Morros was airlifted from the scene and taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, where his condition remains critical. While at the hospital, Morros was put into a medically induced coma to help recovery. The overall damage report says Josh suffered a broken neck, broken back, broken hand, broken nose, possible broken leg, facial lacerations, and the most critical, extreme head trauma.
