Yamaha’s Grant Langston established himself as the man to beat in Texas today by setting the fastest time during qualifying at round 11 of the AMA Motocross Championship at Freestone County Raceway, near Wortham, Texas.

Langston came into the round with a two point advantage over Honda’s Andrew Short in the series standings and rode confidently to a fastest time of 2:12.561, which was over a second quicker than Kawasaki’s Tim Ferry, who sits in third overall in the title chase.

Short was third fastest (2:15.066), while KTM’s Mike Alessi (2:15.105) and Sobe No Fear/Samsung/Honda’s Kevin Windham (2:15.252) rounded out the top five.

Monster Energy Kawasaki teammates Ryan Villopoto (pictured), Ben Townley and Austin Stroupe claimed the top three fastest times in the Lites division, with Villopoto posting a time that would have qualified him third in the Motocross division, a 2:14.063.

Townley was a second-and-a-half back at 2:15.597, with Stroupe not far behind with a 2:15.822.

Sobe No Fear/Samsung/Honda’s Trey Canard was the top non-Kawasaki rider with a time of 2:15.822.

The Freestone County Raceway is hosting a motocross national for the first time and most of the riders liked the track, which was fast and slightly narrow in places.
