Carmichael Going For 150th Win at Millville

Ricky Carmichael will close out his AMA National Motocross career tomorrow at Spring Creek MX Park near Millville, Minnesota, and the Makita Suzuki rider set the tone today by posting the fastest lap in practice.

Rain moved into the area this morning and forced the cancellation of the first round of practices, but qualifying eventually got underway later in the afternoon, however the track was still muddy when Carmichael took to the course.

Yamaha’s Grant Langston was second fastest, over three seconds behind Carmichael, while MDK Honda’s David Vuillemin came next ahead of privateer Honda rider Gavin Gracyk and Suzuki’s Ivan Tedesco.

Missing from the day’s action was Kawasaki teammates James Stewart and Tim Ferry.

Stewart, who injured his knee at Washougal two weeks ago, tried to ride on Friday and decided his knee was still not 100% and will skip tomorrow’s race altogether.

Meanwhile, Ferry elected to sit out the muddy session and wait for dryer conditions tomorrow, as did several other riders.

In the Lites division, Ben Townley was fastest, ahead of Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Brett Metcalfe, while Yamaha’s Broc Hepler, defending champ Ryan Villopoto (Kaw) and Honda’s Tommy Hahn rounded out the top five.

Trey Canard, who is making his pro debut at Millville on a Sobe No Fear/Samsung-backed Honda was fifth fastest.
