Stewart and Carmichael Top Practice in Dallas

Practice has just concluded in Texas Stadium for round 14 of the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series in Dallas, Texas, and once again it was James Stewart who posted the fastest time. The Team Kawasaki rider logged a best time of 49.988 to outdistance Team Makita Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael by nearly a second and a half. Carmichael’s best time was a 51.458, set on the eighth of 10 practice laps, while Team Yamaha’s Chad Reed was third fastest with a 52.306.

Texas-native Jeff Dement surprised the troops by posting the fourth fastest time on his Maestro Suzuki, with a 53.978, with Carmichael’s teammate Ivan Tedesco in fifth with a 54.224.

The highly anticipated debut of Team Honda’s Davi Millsaps in the 450 class was cut short when Millsaps hurt his knee in the early practice session and called it a day. Information on the extent of his injury was not available.

In the Lites division, which this week features the West Region, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammates Grant Langston and Ryan Villopoto topped the practice time sheets, with Langston posting the fastest time with a 53.231, while Villopoto came next with a time of 54.213. Yamaha of Troy’s Brett Metcalfe was third with a 54.974, just ahead of Team Honda’s Andrew Short with a 55.031.

The soil used for the Dallas track has a very high clay content, and during practice the surface was starting to get hard packed and dusty, which will make a good start more important than ever.
