Helping Atherton

Paul Carruthers | April 25, 2006
The following is from Jay Shelton…

This helmet is being donated to fellow racer and friend Kevin Atherton National # 23. Kevin was injured while competing at the Daytona Grand National Flattrack race on March 8th 2006. This helmet was worn by fellow racer Jay Shelton #2B at the same race. This is one of two helmets that AGV, sponsor of Jay supplied him a few years back. My new helmets were not ready for Daytona, so I wore my favorite “old lid”…I’m now donating it to be auctioned off to help raise money for Kevin.

I know all about the high cost of medical expenses. Jay had a kidney/pancreas transplant on May 17, 2001 and returned to AMA Pro Racing 14 months later at the Harrington “Hall of Fame” race. Kevin and I both share a common bond…Our passion for racing motorcycles…we both have been through a lot of medical hardships and I hope this helmet brings some “good money” to help a “GREAT RACER” who is loved by all.

I “Jay Shelton” signed the back of the helmet “For Kevin #23” Jay Shelton. It’s a graphic from Drudi Design of Italy, who happens to do all of World Champion Valentino Rossi’s helmets. It is quite stunning and will make a great souvenir. Thanks to whoever is the winning bidder…both Kevin and I appreciate it. The helmet, after the auction, will be sent to Kevin for your custom autograph signature from Kevin (anything you want on it) within reason.

It comes with a new extra clear shield and a nice AGV bag. I don’t see a size anywhere but I guess it to be a medium.

Guys and Gals, I thought it important that I keep this helmet amongst our flattrack family versus posting it on eBay and losing it to some collector, and giving the chance for one of you to own it. Bidding will end on April 28th at 12:00 midnight Ohio time on my birthday. LOL.

DO NOT POST ON THIS THREAD UNLESS YOU ARE BIDDING!!! PLEASE!

I will start the bidding out with a $75.00 bid.

ALL BIDDING WILL BE IN $10.00 INCREMENTS ONLY! THANKS

ALL Proceeds will go directly to cover Kevin’s medical bill.
