Aaron, Florin Wrap Up National Trials Series

Geoff Aaron (G-G) closed out the 2004 season with a win at the final round of the NATC/AMA National Trials Series held in the dairy farm district of northern Vermont, and in doing so, claimed an unprecedented eighth National title. Aaron, however, did not have things go totally his way, as Montesa USA’s Chris Florin took his first-ever National win on Saturday, topping Aaron by over 13 points and ruining Aaron’s bid for a perfect season. South Africa’s Brent le Riche (Mon) finished out the podium, edging out 16-year-old Cody Webb (G-G) by a single mark.

On Sunday, Webb jumped into the early lead in the slippery and moss-covered terrain, posting the best laps on both the first and second laps of the competition, but Aaron, like so many times before, fought his way back to take his eighth win in the nine-round series and the title. Canadian Ryon Bell, who announced his retirement after the event, also moved past Webb on the final lap to finish second.

Aaron ended the year with a total of 265 points, followed by Bell with 204 and Florin with 197. Brent le Riche and brother Bruce were fourth and fifth with 150 and 143 points, respectively.
