Davis Cools Off at Utah WORCS

As you can see it was a little on the “cool” side at this weekend’s Parts Unlimited World Off-Road Championship Series (west) in Price, Utah. Most of the bad weather happened on Saturday, but for Sunday’s Pro race, the weather improved and track conditions were ideal, though it was still very cold.
Ty Davis, on his Montclair Yamaha-backed YZ250, came away with his second WORCS win in a row and third of the series, but had it not been for some bad luck to Lance Smail, Davis might not have pulled it off. Smail had reeled in and passed Davis and was maintaining about a 10- to 15-second lead with about 40 minutes to go when a rock destroyed Smail’s chain and countershaft sprocket. Davis rode past Smail’s broken bike and went on to win, finishing well over a minute ahead of fellow Yamaha rider Russ Pearson.
Third overall went to Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott, while Suzuki support rider Robert Naughton and Kawasaki’s Brian Brown rounded out the top five.
