SETRA Hosts Star-Studded Hare Scrambles

Even though the Grand National Cross Country Series is still a few weeks away from getting underway (March 4), you would not have guessed that at a SETRA Hare Scrambles round in Abbeville, South Carolina, that was held over the weekend. Obviously, many of the top GNCC riders are getting ready for the series as evident by the star-studded turnout at the SETRA race. Some of the top riders that showed up included Jason Raines, Chuck Woodford, Randy Hawkins and Barry Hawk Jr. But none of them took the win, believe it or not, instead the top dog was former multi-time GNCC champ Scott Summers, who piloted a Honda XR650R to victory.

Summers, who basically went into a forced retirement a few years back because of a series of injuries, is getting the itch to go racing again. He has been popping up at local off-road races lately and has been doing quite well, and word has it that Summers wants to go GNCC racing full-time again. However, word also has it that Honda is reluctant to release him out of his “no-race, p.r.-only” contract.

In the SETRA race, Summers finished ahead of Hawk, Woodford, Raines and local speedster Dobe Leonard. Hawkins finished sixth.
