Watts WORCS ‘Em

| November 5, 2001

Shane Watts showed up at Sunday’s Parts Unlimited WORCS round in Roseburg, Oregon, where he pulled off the overall win after suffering a horrible start. The Australian passed most of the pack on the first lap, then put his KTM 200 in the lead and pulled away to a comfortable victory in the two-hour race.

Finishing second was Yoshimura Suzuki’s Steve Hatch, with teammate Mike Kiedrowski taking third. Kiedrowski led the series coming into the second-to-last round, and he increased that lead in Oregon, as title rival Destry Abbott did not compete. The Kawasaki Team Green rider crashed while practicing in Arizona on Thursday, and a separated shoulder will have him sidelined for approximately one month.

The event featured a stellar course and perfect conditions, as rain watered the area for several days before the sun came out on race weekend.

Finishing fourth overall was KTM’s Brian Garrahan, and rounding out the top five – despite a lap-one crash, subsequent bike repairs and a charge through the pack – was Yoshimura Suzuki’s Rodney Smith.
