Montclair Yamaha’s Ty Davis and Kurt Caselli took the lead and held on to win in 3:30:50 at the Vegas 200 yesterday after early leader Shane Esposito reportedly broke just past the halfway mark. It marked the first win for Davis on his YZ426F in Best in the Desert’s Silver State Series this year, and it was Caselli’s Yamaha debut. Davis’ regular partner, Russell Pearson, sat out due to upcoming eye surgery.

Steve Hengeveld soloed to take second overall, second Open Pro on his Team Honda XR650R in 3:40:20. That unofficially wrapped up second in final points for him and partner Jonah Street, who didn’t ride because he’s still recovering from injuries.

Third went to defending series champs Destry Abbot and Brian Brown on their Team Green KX500 in 3:40:59. Jacob Phillips, Wade Phillips and Lance Stein took first Expert and fourth overall on their KTM in 3:52:21. Team Honda’s Johnny Campbell and Tim Staab rode their XR650R to fifth overall in 3:52:30, enough to wrap up the series championship.

Kariya spends way too much time in the desert, but we’re glad he does as he’s the man who gets us our coverage of all things sandy.
