Pastrana to Compete

| August 4, 2000

As the world’s top freestylers were arriving in Las Vegas in preparation for the August 5th round of competition, a popular name in the sport emerged as a contestant – Travis Pastrana. Pastrana was confirmed this morning on the list of riders that will be competing for the Vans Triple Crown of Freestyle Motocross.

This will be Pastrana’s first time to return to the sculptured freestyle course since winning the NBC Gravity Games in 1999. Pastrana also made waves, so to speak, as he celebrated his win of the X Games the same year with his infamous jump into the San Francisco Bay.

Pastrana was featured on NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno alongside seven-time supercross champion, Jeremy McGrath as well as being featured on the David Letterman Show, Martin Short Show and in numerous national publications.

The Vans Triple Crown of Freestyle Motocross is a three-round series within a series that will boast a $175,000 purse and points fund. $50,000 per event will be distributed to the top finishers with an additional $25,000 going to the winner of the series. More than 40 riders will participate in the qualification process that will result in 15 of the best riders being eligible to compete in the Vans Triple Crown events. Vans, a footwear, clothing, retail and entertainment company, is well-known throughout the extreme sports industry for its Triple Crown Series events.
