Davis Back on the Attack

| August 9, 2000
Fasthog.com’s Will Davis is preparing to put in his first competitive ride since suffering a near-fatal head injury while playing in a softball game just before the Oklahoma City Half Mile in mid-July. Davis has confirmed that he will be in tonight’s lineup for the Formula USA/Wrenchead.com Rapid City Half Mile in the Black Hills of South Dakota, the event having previously been the traditional midweek stop for the AMA Grand National tour during the annual Sturgis Rally & Races held each August.

“We’re excited, and we’re ready to go,” said Davis, who is currently eighth in the Formula USA/Wrenchead.com National Dirt Track Series points standings and second in the AMA/Progressive Insurance U.S. Flat Track Championships. “I’ve been riding on my practice track at my house, and I feel good. There’s just a little bit of puffiness still in my face, but my eye works the way its supposed to, and that was the biggest thing. I was going to ride here tonight anyway, but I’m really glad that I get to get this one in before heading to Peoria [for the AMA TT].”

And in case anyone is wondering, Davis has not given up on his beloved softball either.

“Heck no,” Davis said. “I practiced last Monday night with my team. Of course, I was the only one in the outfield wearing a full-coverage Rawlings batting helmet!”
