T.C. Raced Legendary Builder John Gregory’s Diabolical Creation, a Norton Double-Engine Drag Bike
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock to the early 1970s, a time when one of the fastest drag bikes in the country was a double-engine Norton called Hogslayer. The Hogslayer was ridden by T.C. Christenson, the rock star of the sport at that time. Behind the scenes it was builder extraordinaire John Gregory who turned the wrenches and made Hogslayer power down the strip with an awesome roar. The popularity of Hogslayer soared when the team took the bike to run the invitation only NHRA World Finals in Ontario, California, in 1972. The event was featured on ABC’s Wide World of Sport and Christenson and Hogslayer were the stars of the program. Christenson dominated the event, winning the final with a world record 8.52-second run. Suddenly Hogslayer was featured in motorcycle magazines across the globe. Christenson and Gregory became drag bike celebrities. T.C. traveled with a Kenosha, Wisconsin-based entourage, and the parties they threw after the races were over the top and the place to be. Today Hogslayer resides at Britain’s National Motorcycle Museum.
