Video Highlights from the 2019 Southwick Motocross 2019 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship
Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin took down his second win in a row in the sand of Southwick, Massachusetts’ MX338, at the halfway point of the 2019 Lucas Oil/AMA Pro Motocross Championships. Musquin qualified first and then went 1-2 to take the overall win and move into second in the series points standings.
And in the 250cc class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo put himself back up to the top of the field in the 250cc class, winning his fifth overall of the year with a 1-2 score, extending his points lead to 23.
Musquin Wins 2019 Southwick National
Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) came out on the top step of overall the podium for the second week in a row at Southwick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts. Round 6 of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross had tensions high as points were on the overall win was on the line. Red Bull KTM stole the holeshots of both motos with Musquin earning it in Moto One and keeping the lead for the remainder of the race, and his teammate, Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) stealing it in Moto Two. Webb quickly lost the lead in Moto Two after scuffing the front end, leaving him to take fourth overall.
450 rookie, Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), landed himself a position on the second step of the podium after winning Moto Two following a third place in Moto One.
Points leader, Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki), went 2-3 for the day, allowing him to continue his streak of ending up on the podium with a third place overall.
Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) followed Cooper Webb by finishing with fifth place overall.
Osborne Takes First-Ever 450cc Moto Win
Marvin Musquin led the entire 30 minute first moto which secured him that position for the day. Because Osborne went 3-1, Musquin’s second place finish in Moto Two was crucial for him to earn the top step of the podium. Tomac stayed consistent and continued to chard Musquin throughout both motos in attempts to strip Musquin of the overall win.
Just outside of the top five was Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha) in sixth, followed by Fredrik Noren (JGR-MX) who qualified within the top ten on his new factory ride. Ken Roczen ( Honda HRC) had solid starts in both motos, being within the top five of both races; after falling back drastically, he stole 9th place overall. After qualifying 33rd on his first race back after his injury, Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Yamaha) earned 17th at the end of the day.
When asked about how he feels leaving Southwick after leading for so long, Marvin Musquin explains that the longer he leads, the more pressure begins to build from the pack behind him. He is excited for Red Bud and hopes to continue on his winning streak.
In the second moto, Webb got the holeshot, but Osborne quickly struck and took the lead when Webb nearly fell, making a great save. Osborne led his first-ever 450cc lap on lap one of the moto, and then he was gone, taking his first-ever 450cc moto win.
Cianciarulo Snags Southwick MX National
Adam Cianciarulo earned the holeshot on his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, which he held the remainder of Moto One, earning him the win. However, Moto Two, he did not have the same luck, giving the lead to Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha). Cianciarulo finished the moto in second, which still allowed him to earn the overall win for the day. Ferrandis finished on the second step, with teammate, Justin Cooper (Monster Energy/Star Yamaha Racing), to round out the top three with a third-place finish.
RJ Hampshire (Geico Honda) and Shane McElrath (Troy Lee Designs KTM) closed off the top five. Alex Martin (JGR-MX Suzuki) and Brandon Hartranft ended in sixth and seventh respectively.
Ferrandis Second Overall at Southwick
Chase Sexton (HRC Honda), had a disappointing day after receiving a 13th in Moto One, followed by not lining up in Moto Two, resulting in an 18th overall.
Martin Davalos (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) suffered a crash in Moto Two, causing him to finish in the 40th spot, averaging a 33rd overall.
While Cianciarulo was expected by fans to finish with a podium, Cianciarulo himself was not feeling confident coming into the day because of his results at this track in previous years.
He states on the podium, “This is the best day I have had her at Southwick; I have never done good here, so coming away with a win is unbelievable. It feels so good to have this monkey off my back”.
Cianciarulo remains the holder of the red plate for the 250 class.
The series resumes this coming Saturday, July 6th, at legendary RedBud in Buchanan, Michigan.

On the sandy terrain of Southwick, Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin topped out qualifying with a fastest lap time of 2:07.563, showing his momentum is high coming into the day after his overall win last week in Florida.
Musquin led almost a full second over Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) who ended with a 2:08.234.
Not far behind Anderson was Ken Roczen (Honda HRC) who rounded out the top three finishing just .08 seconds slower than Anderson.
Points leader, Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki), came in behind Roczen with a 2:08.722 after making multiple adjustments to the bike while qualifying.
Fredrik Noren (JGR-MX Suzuki) earned a fifth-place qualifying spot for his first race as a JGR athlete, just having signed with the team on Thursday.
Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) finished with a 6th place, just .12 seconds faster than Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha) who qualified 7th.
Zach Osborne (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) finished outside the top ten with a 12th qualifying position going into the main event.
Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Yamaha) is making his debut back after an injury sustained in Daytona during the Supercross season. Plessinger struggled to earn a 31st overall position.

And in the 250cc class, Yamaha swept the top three gate pick positions after earning the fastest qualifying times. Last week’s winner, Justin Cooper (Monster Energy/Star Yamaha Racing) had the fastest time of 2:08.071, topping over his teammates, Colt Nichols (Monster Energy/Star Yamaha Racing) and Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy/Star Yamaha Racing) who earned a 2:08.749 and 2:08.888 respectively.
Shane McElrath (Troy Lee Designs KTM) broke up the Yamaha streak with a fourth-place finish, with almost a full second behind Ferrrandis.
Mitchell Oldenburg (Monster Energy/Star Yamaha Racing) ended with a fifth-place qualifying position.
Points leader, Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), ended with a 2:09.866, leaving him to be just outside of the top five.
Chase Sexton (Geico Honda) ended in 12th, with his teammate, R.J. Hampshire rounding out the top 20.
