The series heads to Little Sahara Recreation area in southern Utah on May 4
This is a press release from National Hare & Hound…
The series returns to southern Utah for the last race before summer break. Round five is hosted by Sage Riders MC at the Little Sahara Recreation area (as seen in the movie Great Wide Open). The event begins in the picturesque sand dunes, where series legends have been captured sending it off of the bomb run. This is a Motorcycle and ATV event, in which all classes will race on Saturday. A National number is required, unless the Racer is a member of USRA, and has a locally approved number.
On Friday night, get ready for a fiesta: We’re celebrating Cino de Mayo. Get creative in your pit with a full on Cinco de Mayo set up. At this time meet your favorite riders, as Pro riders will be doing autographs down Pit Row from 4-5 p.m.
Racers of the Sage Riders Desert Devotional can expect to start in the sand dunes, and ventures out into open valleys and sand washes before heading into higher elevation. It is not likely that the region will receive moisture, and riders can expect dust if there is no rain fall.
Little Sahara Recreation Area (LSRA) is 60,000 acres of sagebrush flats, juniper-covered hills, and free moving sand dunes located in Juab County, Utah. Less than a two-hour drive from Salt Lake City, LSRA provides an experience unlike any other for OHV fun and camping. Visitors frequent the recreation area for the challenges of climbing the 700-foot tall Sand Mountain, network of dirt trails around Black Mountain, low-lying dunes for beginners, and the White Sand Dune bowls.
Sage Riders MC has deep roots in the series, and over 50 years experience putting on a Hare & Hound event. If you made it to round 4 in April, expect to race on different terrain at round 5.
The Sage Riders: 30 years old and still going strong! The Sage Riders Motorcycle Club was formed in 1980 with it’s first president being Robert Hutchings. The club’s first race was a motocross held at the “Lark” track near Lehi. Preston Gerber took over as club president in 1981 and the club sponsored it’s first desert race in the Jericho area which was won by Don Fuller of Fillmore, Utah.
In 1990/1991 the club’s first AMA sanctioned National Hare N Hound. Maintaining the title of “Shawn Gerber Memorial” the event was won by Larry Roeseler of California in both 1990 and 1991. After 22 years, the Sage Riders Club is stronger than ever and while we continue to sponsor excellent races and enjoy our trail rides, we remain leaders in the fight for motorized access to public lands.
