Phoenix Supercross Daytime News Update: In Phoenix, Ariz., for round two of the Monster Energy/AMA Supercross Series, timed qualifying is finished, and a new face topped the board in the 450cc class. Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Blake Baggett put down the fastest qualifying lap of the day in the final qualifying session, with a 59.615-second laptime just in front of Monster Energy/Yamalube/Chaparral Yamaha’s Cooper Webb’s 59.911. Then came Baggett’s teammate Davi Millsaps (59.963) and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac (59.993). They were the only four racers to put in a time in the 59s.

JGR Suzuki’s Weston Peick had a big get-off in the first practice of the day and was carted off by the Alpinestars Mobile Medic crew with a fractured wrist, so he’s out indefinitely, leaving the only 450cc rider on the team being Jake Weimer, who was already a fill-in racer for injured Justin Barcia, who may be back racing any time now.

In the second practice session of the day, 51Fifty Energy Yamaha’s Tyler Bowers went down in a long rhythm section, and GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin had nowhere to go, clipping Bowers, careening off the track and landing awkwardly on his head. Martin broke his visor in the fall, but got up and put in his fastest time of the session (a 1:03.680, the second-fastest time overall in the session). Bowers fractured his femur in the fall (he’s broken both of his femurs before, and has rods in both legs, but he fractured one in the crash). When Martin got back to the pits, it became apparent that Martin had suffered a concussion in his fall, because he didn’t know where he was. Martin is also out for the night due to concussion protocol.
